This resource has sorting cards so that students can make a model of the life cycle of a sunflower. This resource addresses the standard for 3rd-grade NGSS 3-LS1-1. Students will learn all about the life cycle of a sunflower with these great sunflower activities.

This resource addresses the NGSS Disciplinary Core Idea: Molecules and Organisms: Structure and Processes.

This resource includes:

  • lesson plans
  • task cards
  • sequencing cards
  • an informational text passage
  • response pages
  • interactive notebook flaps
  • lab ideas

Teachers love This Resource! ❤️❤️❤️

Mollie ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ Extremely Satisfied

I printed these, placed seeds, cotton balls, and baggies in monthly supply pick up for my distance learners…. they LOVED opportunity to complete some hands on science during virtual school!

Standards Addressed:

NGSS 3-LS1-1 Develop models to describe that organisms have unique and diverse life cycles, but all have in common birth, growth, reproduction, and death.

SCI.4.10.C Organisms and Environments. The student knows that organisms undergo similar life processes and have structures and behaviors that help them survive within their environment. The student is expected to: explore, illustrate, and compare life cycles in living organisms such as beetles, crickets, radishes, or lima beans.

Utah SEEd 3.2.1 Develop models to describe patterns of change that organisms go through during their life cycles. Emphasize that organisms have unique and diverse life cycles, but all have birth, growth, reproduction, and death in common.

Students will use the following Science and Engineering Practices:

  • Asking questions (for science) and defining problems (for engineering)
  • Developing and using models
  • Planning and carrying out investigations
  • Analyzing and interpreting data
  • Constructing explanations (for science) and designing solutions (for engineering) Engaging in argument from evidence
  • Obtaining, evaluating, and communicating information
