You will love this ecological true story of the decline and subsequent recovery of the brown pelican. Luckily, steps were taken to preserve this species, and the brown pelican now represents a significant conservation success story. In 1970, the United States government listed the brown pelican as a protected endangered species. The brown pelicans were taken off the endangered species list in 2009.
Students will benefit from this resource by learning that human impact can be negative (like releasing DDT into sewers) and positive (like banning DDT and protecting nesting grounds)
