Description
Waves and Mathematical Representations is a unit for NGSS MS PS4-1 Students will use computational thinking to analyze the properties of waves. They will learn that the amplitude of a wave is related to the energy in a wave.
This resource is aligned with the following standards:
MS PS4-1 Use mathematical representations to describe a simple model for waves that includes how the amplitude of a wave is related to the energy in a wave.
Utah SEEd
Standard 8.2.4
Use computational thinking to describe a simple model for waves that shows the pattern of wave amplitude being related to wave energy. Emphasize describing waves with both quantitative and qualitative thinking. Examples could include using graphs, charts, computer simulations, or physical models to demonstrate amplitude and energy correlation. (PS4.A)
This resource includes a slide show, reading passages, labs, response pages, a STEM engineering activity, and a quiz at the end of the unit. Students will make graphs, calculate the speed of waves and analyze mathematical tables.
