Description
Engineering For Middle School Identifying Criteria and Constraints is a great unit for teaching engineering skills. Students will learn about criteria and constraints and will identify them in three engineering challenges and in several engineering scenarios. Students will compare two engineering solutions to see how well they meet the criteria and constraints. This resource is aligned with MS-ETS1-1 and MS-ETS1-2.
This unit includes:
- A slide show on criteria and constraints
- A strategic notetaking guide
- 3 STEM Engineering Activities (ping pong ball launcher, zipline, and tower)
- Response pages
- A group activity
- Practice Pages for Identifying criteria and constraints
Standards Addressed:
NGSS MS-ETS1-1 Define the criteria and constraints of a design problem with sufficient precision to ensure a successful solution, taking into account relevant scientific principles and potential impacts on people and the natural environment that may limit possible solutions.
NGSS MS-ETS1-2.Evaluate competing design solutions
using a systematic process to determine how well they meet the criteria and constraints of the problem.
