Reindeer Informational Text Reading Unit

Reindeer Reading Unit

Your elementary class will love this science reading unit on Reindeer. This Reindeer Informational Text Unit is great to read any time of the year.

Reindeer are interesting animals with special adaptations!

In this Reindeer Informational Text, students will compare two nonfiction passages on reindeer and will integrate ideas to write about the topic.

Did you know that Santa’s reindeer were female? We know this because of specific scientific facts we know about reindeer. Did you know that reindeer have a way to warm up the Arctic air they take in? Reindeer have all kinds of unique adaptations that help them to survive on the Arctic Tundra.

Reindeer also have behavioral adaptations that help them survive in the cold and find food in the middle of winter. You will be amazed at how these interesting animals have adaptations that help them survive in their habitat.

I am so impressed with this unit which manages to be distance learning and hands-on at the same time.  Really well thought out and engaging activities that allow students to practice each of the eight Science and Engineering Practices.  Really no prep for me!

The elephant article was excellent but I also thought the lab on dissecting a flower was broken down so easily, even telling me where to get inexpensive flowers!  This resource helped me teach this challenging standard in an engaging way.  Worth every penny!

My students loved this unit. I was able to present different elements of it throughout the month. It is hard to find interesting non-fictional, age-appropriate text for my students that they will enjoy. This was a great unit that aligned well for my students who have very different goals within the same group.
