As more districts have started closing, we’ve had a lot of parents and educators looking for “home STEM” distance learning ideas. Here are 13 STEM challenges for teaching STEM at home with the materials at hand.
Students at home should be encouraged to use a variety of materials that they have on hand and substitute when needed.

STEM Challenges to Do At Home

These at Home Learning STEM Activities include 13 STEM challenges. Distance learning STEM Challenges: This resource gives students the chance to do STEM challenges using materials they have at home. Students will love these 13 STEM engineering activities! Students will get background information in videos and text and will be given the challenge to design and build something with materials they have at home. Students will record ideas right on the google slides and take photos or videos of their STEM project and add it to the Google Slide to turn in.  This unit is designed in Google Slides. Students will need to have access to Google in order to use it.

     Each of the 13 STEM challenges can be completed at home with the support of the information in the Google Slides.  Great for STEM teaching or STEEM programs that are in a distance learning situation. Could also be used for homeschool or in-person learning.

STEM stands for Science Technology Engineering and Math and activities involving these fields have a huge impact on kids.  Even the simplest STEM activities like making a bridge provide numerous opportunities for kids to learn and explore STEM.

     It might look like your kids are just playing, but they are doing oh so much more. Look closely, you will see the design process in motion. You will see experimenting and critical thinking in action, and you will notice problem-solving at its finest.  When kids play, they learn about the world around them!

  • Who will solve the current and future dilemmas without divergent thinkers that use STEM skills to solve problems?
